Aaliyah Dana Haaughton gained prominence after the release of her first album Age Ain't Nothing More Than a Number in 1994. The album, made available at just fifteen years old was certified Gold. R. Kelly was a major influence on this collaboration which put the singer into the spotlight. The year 1996 saw her release her sophomore album One In A Million with Jermaine dupri and Timbaland. The album featured the number one hit track If Your Girl Only knew. Aaliyah received international recognition for her R&B songs through the release of this album. She was also in Romeo Must Die, a romance/action movie with Jet-Li. Joel Silver, a film producer at an award ceremony in which she was cast was able to spot her. In 2002 she had the opportunity to appear in the film vampire Queen of the Damned which was based on the Anne Rice novel. The Matrix Sequels saw her as Zee, after appearing on The Matrix Reloaded (2003) as well as The Matrix Revolutions that same year. The artist received four Grammy nominations in 1999 and 2003. The actress is Indian American of the her first generation, of origin born in Connecticut. Mann is a shortening of her husband's first name Mankad. Aarti Magnumdar, her professional name. However, she is also known as Aarti Magumdar for her stage name. Although she began her acting career in film and TV with a few minor parts, her acting career started to gain speed in the late 2000s. The actress has also been featured in Leverage, Suits, Grey's Anatomy as well as Grey's Anatomy. She's appeared in many commercials, including Volvo's global car producer. She lives in Los Angeles where she continues to work as an actor.
