Winona Ryder, professionally Winona Ryder, was born on Winona Minnesota. The parents of Winona Ryder gave her the name of her hometown. Her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder's dad was born into a Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. Ryder has a younger brother Uria and half-siblings Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder's parents moved her along with their children to Mendocino County California when Ryder turned seven. The town didn't even have electricity. Ryder who read a lot at the age of 12 became a book worm since Ryder did not have access to television. When she turned twelve, Ryder joined the American Conservatory Theatre to take acting classes. Lucas was dismissed in the year 1986, and Ryder who was barely 15 years old, landed a role as a leading actor. Ryder suffered bullying in the high school. She hoped that the acting profession would end this. But it wasn't to come to happen. But she pushed on with her goals. In 1988, she got her breakthrough role in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder played successful roles for several films. Two Academy Awards were nominated, one of which was for The Age of Innocence (1996).
